Search Engine Ranking
When we talk about search engine ranking we mean where you appear when people (your customers) search for a keyword or phrase relevent to your site.
Obviously you want your site to be number 1 and appear at the top for everything related to your site, since people tend to pick the first thing they see in a list assuming it will be the most relevant. Which is exatly what search engines try to do.
What you need to do is make your site the MOST relevant for whatever you are selling or at least make the search engines think it is.
So how do i improve my ranking?
- Pick some keywords
Start by chosing a few keywords. 3-5 initially. Choose thing that you think people will search for if they want to find your products. Ask friends and family what THEY would search for to find your product. It's good to get different perspectives.
- Get some high quality backlinks
This is a massive part of how search engines determine the relevance of your site. Unfortunately it is almost the most time consuming and expensive. There no easy way to do this and its often better to pay some professionals (such as ourselves) to use their expertise in this area.
- Carefully examine your site for broken links and errors
Just as web broswers don't like errors and broken links, neither to search engines. Make sure all of your links go somewhere and try not to have hundreds of outbound links all over your site. It makes it look less relevant if everything it point away from it.
- Use bold and header tags to give your keywords more weight
Search engines attach more weigth to words in h1-h5 tags and b (bold) tags so make use of this and make sure your important words are in bold or heaader tags.
